Are you looking for more about Sony X7400H or Sony X7500H? Then please read it completely. Remember X7400H and X7500H are the same except X7500H has better motion flow X200.
Recently I was forced to buy a new TV since the existing budget 4K 55" TV panel was damaged due to my kid's activities.
When I called the budget TV service center for panel replacement they have offered me a new TV at 80% of the current market cost. And also the warranty period will be the same as the remaining for the current TV, which was already expired!
That means if the new TV has manufacturing defects then should I bear the risk!?
My Search for a new TV begins
Then I thought it is better to invest in a new TV than go for that offer. Also, I have decided I will go with one of the 3 major TV brands. After doing a lot of research I had zeroed down on Sony X80J or X80AJ. The only difference between these TV is motion flow technology speed. X80J has better motion flow X200, X80AJ has X100.
I was waiting for the Dasara sale on Amazon and Flipkart. Later I have found last year's (2020) Sony X7400H model at a good deal (15000rs lesser price than X80AJ) and bought the same.
Sony BRAVIA X74H 55" TV vs my previous 4K 55" Budget TV
After using this TV for more than a month this is what I have experienced. The upscaling of SD content and picture quality is far better than my previous budget TV of the same size and resolution. Out of the box, Sony TV has the best settings for the color and SD Content upscaling.
In budget TV earlier I used to adjust color and brightness to get the optimum picture quality. Still, the kind of colors I am currently getting in Sony X7400H is much vibrant and natural without straining my eyes.
Also, it has a deep black experience, which could be because of the VA panel. I have watched even Dolby Vision content on this TV, although it does not have Dolby Vision support still renders those HDR videos beautifully. Even my earlier budget TV had Dolby Vision but this TV X7400H shows HDR content better.
Since it is an android TV there are no app issues. All major apps are available.
Even sound quality is very good I have not felt the need for any soundbar for my 12 feet * 20 feet hall with good acoustics. We can easily watch at volume levels 15 to 23, hear all voices and dialog loud and clearly.
To my surprise, the remote works even if I am not pointing towards the TV and also from a room behind the TV. This remote has dedicated buttons only for Google Play Store and Netflix.
Sony BRAVIA X7400H or X74H is a Sony budget 4K 2020 TV model. This TV comes with TRILLUMINOUS Display. It is a VA panel type. Its picture quality is much better than most budget 4K TVs. Also, it produces very vibrantly and natural colors out of the box. Its motion handling is also good. In 2021 Sony has released its newer versions called X75 and X74. But they are available only in 43" and 50" sizes.
Pros
- Very good upscaling capability
- Natural colors reproduction and vibrant colors
- Wide color gamut panel
- Deep black
- Very good picture quality, better than most budget TVs.
- Android TV all major apps supported
- Good Motion handling.
- Very good sound reproduction
Cons
- No Dolby Vision or Atmos support in X7400H, go for X80J or X80AJ. They have Dolby Vision and Atmos support.
- If you invest a bit more you will get Sony X80J or X80AJ 2021 version with Dolby Vision and Atmos, Trilluminous Pro display.
- The higher models of Sony 4K TV have much better picture quality. If you have the budget then you can buy them.
- Sony X7400H is a bit expensive, although they provide premium picture quality compared to others. I would say you will get what you pay for!
SD Content Upscaling
Trust me I was not getting this kind of quality images in my earlier budget TV. In X7400H picture quality is like glossy Auto or Film monthly magazines kind of! By default, no color calibration is required.
Sony or Samsung or LG TV which is better?
While researching on TV models even I have compared Sony TV with models of Samsung and LG in showrooms. When it comes to picture quality, colors, motion handling, and content upscaling I found still Sony TVs are a bit ahead of the game.
Yes, Samsung catches up in high-end QLED TVs like Q90 and LG in the OLED series. But they are very expensive.
Samsung TVs has more features even in their low-end 4K TV series like Crystal UHD. But their picture quality and upscaling are not as good as Sony.
If I just have to compare picture quality, colors and motion handling is below 1 Lakh budget, I keep Sony first then Samsung and LG. Even Sony TVs have more apps since it uses Android or Google TV OS.
I could be a bit biased here based on my limited observations. Please do your own research.
Conclusion
In my experience, Sony BRAVIA X7400H is a very good TV with picture quality and sound. But Sony has better options if you can stretch your budget a bit more. But I am happy with X7400H purchase. It is very good.
In terms of features and picture quality remember the below hierarchy. On the left side models, you will get fewer features and more on the right side.
X7400H < X7500H < X74 < X75 < X8000H < X80AJ < X80J < X85J < X9000H < X90J
But remember you will get good picture quality on all of these models. None of them will disappoint you. But 9 series will be slightly better than 8, 8 series will be slightly better than 7 series due to changes in the panel technologies. X90J comes with a more powerful XR processor, others come with an X1 processor.
X7400H, X7500H, X8000H, and X9000H are 2020 models go for them only if you are getting a better deal compared to 2021 models. If you are getting the 2021 model just for 5k more than 2020 then it is worth stretching your budget and buying the 2021 model. So make sure to compare the prices of the same size before finalizing.
I had got X7400H Rs 15000 lesser than X80AJ on a Festival sale day, since I had to buy a Voltage stabilizer and TV Guard also I have opted for it. Decide based on your budget.
Even there are OLED TVs at the top end but currently, I won't recommend them due to burn-in issues.
